Miami, FL-based Hellkats plans to dominate the outboard-powered catamaran muscleboat market.
"With a sinister name and fast hull design that began in 2019by the late Rey Marino, the new Miami, FL based Hellkats Powerboats is a custom boutique builder of performance offshore catamarans. Now with a fresh start thanks to the vision of Todd Hays, the new company-headed by President Briland Hays and Vice President Conner Berg-has been displaying its 32 Catamaran(powered by twin Mercury Racing 300Rs) at several recent boat shows, including Fort Lauderdale and Miami (see Page 44).
The boat, which features unmistakable Jay Pilini styling, was rigged by offshore champion racer Julian Maldonado and the team at Manatee Marine Unlimited (Palmetto, FL). After dazzling showgoers, Hellkats enjoyed some additional exposure by joining Stu Jones on one of his famous poker runs with the Florida Powerboat Club. Next, the team wants to bring their boats to events in Lake Havasu City, AZ and the Lake of the Ozarks, MO area." Obviously, those are hotbeds for us." Hays says.
According to Hays, who worked as an Engineer for Contender Boats, the primary feature that distinguishes the Hellkats current lineup of 40',32' and 30' cats, with a 19' catamaran on the way, is the build process. The factory employs vacuum infusion and high-quality materials like epoxy resin and carbon fiber for all the stringers and bulkheads, in their construction." It's something we specialize in,” Hays tells Speedboat. "We've refined the process of building this way in the past year and a half and it is something that I haven't seen a lot of in the industry. Our goal is to build a really solid hull using the latest processes to yield the highest quality results."
The Helkats 30' Catamaran is a small but mighty offshore powerboat design that features twin steps and a narrow tunnel to keep it planted in the water in all conditions. "With our core top deck layout, it has a timeless look, reminiscent of the Miami Vice era of powerboating,” Hays says. "We can build it with a modern flat deck or even a low-profile center console. As with all our hulls, we offer full Carbon layups as well as visual carbon of your choice whatever you want." The 30' is typically powered by twin Mercury Racing 300R or 400R outboards.
Meanwhile, the 32' Catamaran sports a wide 62' tunnel designed for APBA Super Stock Offshore race class-when paired with the optional closed-cockpit layout, it’s ready for action. For those seeking a truly unique aesthetic, the 32' created in raw clear-coat carbon, with optional colored carbon designs (including camo weave, herringbone weave, and honeycomb weave)to offer an exotic look. It can be powered by Mercury Racing 300Rs, 400Rs or 500Rs.
"We’re very hands-on in working with our customers throughout the customization process,” Berg says. "All of our features and options are on our spec sheets, but we can do virtually any kind of customization and make it for you within our highest of standards. We have carbon-fiber options for pretty much every part of the boat that you can imagine. We have great customer service, and we'll make you the boat of your dreams."
"Hellkats has been displaying the 32' Catamaran at recent boat shows, including Fort Lauderdale and Miami. This particular model was powered by twin Mercury Racing 500Rs. The boat features two 60-gallon fuel tanks standard, with an option for more capacity. The core layout is a modern-style flat deck with a five-seat cockpit, which can be modified to a closed cockpit with custom interior."
